One-to-one online tuition for High Wycombe families. Buckinghamshire 11+ preparation for the Secondary Transfer Test, plus GCSE, KS3 and primary — the same tutor at the same hour every week.
Buckinghamshire still runs a selective system. Its grammar schools, including the Royal Grammar School, Wycombe High School and John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe, all use one exam: the Secondary Transfer Test, set by GL Assessment and sat in September of Year 6. It has two papers of about 45 minutes, weighted roughly half verbal ability and a quarter each non-verbal and numerical ability, and a score of 121 qualifies.
Children at Buckinghamshire primary schools are entered automatically unless their parents opt out; children at schools outside the county must be registered, usually in May and June of Year 5. A qualifying score is not a guaranteed place, because each school then applies its own admissions criteria.
The test rewards fast, accurate verbal reasoning above everything else. We weight lessons accordingly, starting with a steady Year 5 plan rather than a summer cram, and we keep GCSE and KS3 support going for older brothers and sisters.
One-to-one online tutors for High Wycombe families in every core subject, from Reception to Year 11. We teach children across High Wycombe, including Totteridge, Castlefield, Desborough, Booker, Hazlemere and Marlow: lessons are online, so it makes no difference which part of the city you live in.
Number, algebra, geometry and statistics from primary to GCSE Foundation and Higher, on your child's exam board.
Reading, comprehension and the written-register gap at primary, then GCSE English Language and Literature.
KS3 science and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Combined or Triple, with required practicals explained.
One subject or several, with past papers and mark schemes on AQA, Edexcel or OCR.
KS1 and KS2 maths and English, times tables, reading fluency and steady KS2 SATs practice.
Entrance preparation matched to the test your target school uses, starting in Year 5.
Where an hour a week does the most good, by stage.
| Stage | What matters most | What we focus on |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (KS1–KS2) | Reading fluency, times-table recall and writing confidence | Diagnosing whether a reading problem is decoding, fluency, vocabulary or comprehension — each needs a different fix |
| Year 6 SATs | Reading, SPaG and maths papers at the end of Year 6 | Steady work across the year rather than a panicked spring term, plus timed arithmetic practice |
| KS3 (Years 7–9) | The gaps that quietly open when nobody is examining anything | Algebra above all, plus written structure in English — the two strongest predictors of later GCSE grades |
| 11+ (Buckinghamshire) | The Secondary Transfer Test, two GL papers sat in September of Year 6; 121 qualifies | Verbal reasoning above all, plus non-verbal and numerical practice under time pressure, from Year 5 |
| GCSE (Years 10–11) | Maths, English and Science grades, and the tier your child is entered for | Full specification coverage on the correct board, past papers, and exam technique from the start |
| Written English | Fluent speech, underpowered writing — very common in bilingual households | Paragraph structure, embedded quotations and analytical sentences taught explicitly |
Lessons in English, because that is what the exam is in — with Urdu available for the thirty seconds it takes to unlock a stuck idea.
Preparation built around the Secondary Transfer Test the Wycombe grammar schools use.
Three one-hour sessions every week, which works out at under £5 an hour.
A written report every week and every lesson recorded, with updates in English or Urdu as you prefer.
Session times shift during Ramadan and pause around Eid, with no charge for the weeks you miss.
An hour a week in Year 8 is worth more to a GCSE grade than three hours a week in Year 11, and costs far less stress.
| Plan | Sessions | Price | Best for |
