Free KS2 Arithmetic Practice Test

Ten SATs-style arithmetic questions. Tick an answer for each, press Check, and see the score, the working and the topics to practise.

1. 347 + 286 =

Answer: Add the ones (7 + 6 = 13, carry 1), the tens (4 + 8 + 1 = 13, carry 1) and the hundreds (3 + 2 + 1 = 6): 633.

2. 905 − 468 =

Answer: Exchange across the zero: 905 becomes 8 hundreds, 9 tens and 15 ones. 15 − 8 = 7, 9 − 6 = 3, 8 − 4 = 4: 437.

3. 36 × 7 =

Answer: 30 × 7 = 210 and 6 × 7 = 42, so 210 + 42 = 252.

4. 432 ÷ 6 =

Answer: 6 goes into 43 seven times (42) with 1 left over; 6 goes into 12 twice: 72.

5. ¾ of 120 =

Answer: Divide by the denominator, multiply by the numerator: 120 ÷ 4 = 30, then 30 × 3 = 90.

6. 2.5 + 3.75 =

Answer: Line up the decimal points: 2.50 + 3.75 = 6.25.

7. 15% of 80 =

Answer: 10% of 80 is 8 and 5% is 4, so 15% is 8 + 4 = 12.

8. 24 × 15 =

Answer: 24 × 10 = 240 and 24 × 5 = 120, so 240 + 120 = 360.

9. ½ + ¼ =

Answer: Make the denominators the same: ½ = ²⁄₄, and ²⁄₄ + ¼ = ¾.

10. 7² − 4 =

Answer: Powers come before subtraction: 7² = 49, then 49 − 4 = 45.
